Replacing Teeth with Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are custom-made appliances that replace all natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw and provide support for the cheeks and lips.
Most dentures are made from acrylic and come in two types:
- Conventional Dentures – Made after all teeth are removed and the gums have healed.
- Immediate Dentures – Made in advance and placed right after teeth are extracted, allowing healing under the denture.
Denture teeth may be made from plastic, porcelain, or a combination of both. In some cases, dentures are fitted over treated teeth or attached to dental implants for improved fit and stability.
Over time, dentures may need to be relined or replaced due to wear or changes in the jawbone and gums. Regular dental exams remain essential for checking the fit and monitoring oral health.
What They Are?
Dentures are removable replacement teeth that come in two types: full and partial.
Full dentures are given to patients when all of the natural teeth are missing or have been removed. Conventional full dentures are placed on once the gum tissue has healed, which can take several months. Immediate full dentures are placed on right after the teeth have been removed and may require recurring adjustments during the first couple of months of use.
Partial dentures consist of an acrylic (gum colored) base or metal frame with fake teeth attachments that fit in-between your natural teeth. This removable alternative to a bridge effectively fills in where permanent teeth are missing.
Are Dentures Right for You?
How Dental Bridges Are Placed?
- Initial Consultation – The dentist will assess your oral health, explain your options, and recommend the best type of bridge for your needs.
- Tooth Preparation – The teeth on either side of the gap are gently reshaped to support crowns that will hold the bridge in place.
- Impressions – Detailed molds are taken to create a custom bridge that blends naturally with your surrounding teeth.
- Temporary Bridge – While your permanent bridge is being made, a temporary one is placed to protect your prepared teeth.
- Final Placement – Once ready, the temporary bridge is removed. The permanent bridge is checked for fit and comfort, then securely cemented in place.
Why Choose a Dental Bridge?
- Restored Appearance – Bridges fill the gaps left by missing teeth, enhancing your smile and boosting your confidence.
- Improved Function – They help you chew and speak more effectively, restoring everyday comfort and function.
- Facial Support – Bridges help preserve your facial shape by preventing surrounding teeth from shifting.
- Balanced Bite – They evenly distribute bite pressure, reducing stress on your remaining natural teeth.
- Prevent Future Issues – Closing gaps helps prevent nearby teeth from drifting and reduces the risk of future dental problems.
